Kinetiq — User Manual

Measure how smooth your ride really feels, and turn it into a Comfort Score.

What Kinetiq does

Kinetiq uses your iPhone's built-in motion sensors and GPS to measure the quality of a ride — in a car, bus, train, or any vehicle — and scores how smooth or rough it was. As you ride, it tracks vibration, smoothness, and sudden jerk events (hard braking, potholes, sharp turns) and maps your route, coloring it by how comfortable each stretch was.

Recording and scoring are free, forever. No account is required to record a ride and see your score.

Getting started

  1. Download Kinetiq from the App Store and open it.
  2. When prompted, allow Motion & Fitness and Location access — these power the score and route map.
  3. (Optional) Sign in with Apple or Google to sync your ride history across devices. You can skip this and use the app anonymously.
  4. Mount or rest your phone securely in the vehicle and you're ready to record.

Recording a ride

  1. On the home screen, choose your transport mode (car, bus, train, etc.).
  2. Tap Record to start. The live screen shows your current Comfort Score, elapsed time, distance, speed, and any events as they're detected.
  3. Keep the app open during the ride — Kinetiq records in the foreground and keeps the screen awake automatically so tracking is never interrupted.
  4. Tap Finish when you arrive. Your ride is analyzed and saved to the Journal with a final score, route map, and event breakdown.
For best results, place the phone on a stable surface or mount rather than holding it — loose handling adds vibration that isn't from the vehicle.

The Comfort Score

Every ride gets a single Comfort Score from 0 to 100. Higher is smoother. The score blends three things measured continuously by your phone's accelerometer and gyroscope:

ExcellentSilky, steady ride — very few events.
GoodComfortable with the occasional bump.
FairNoticeably rough or uneven in places.
RoughFrequent jolts and hard events.

Your route map is colored along its length using the same scale, so you can see exactly where the ride got rough.

Journal & trends

The Journal keeps a history of your rides — each with its score, date, distance, mode, route, and detected events. Tap any ride to see its segment-level map and event detail.

The Trends view turns your history into insights: how your ride comfort changes over time, comparisons between routes, and patterns across modes of transport.

Kinetiq Premium

Recording and scoring stay free. Premium unlocks memory and depth:

Premium is offered as an auto-renewable subscription (Monthly or Annual, with a free trial on the Annual plan). Subscriptions renew at the listed price until cancelled, and can be managed or cancelled anytime in your App Store account settings. See the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use (EULA).

FAQ

Do I need to keep the screen on?

Kinetiq keeps the screen awake for you while recording, so just leave the app open for the ride. It records in the foreground rather than in the background.

Does it work without signing in?

Yes. Sign-in is optional and only used to sync your history across devices.

Can I use it on iPad?

Yes — Kinetiq runs on iPhone and iPad.

How do I cancel Premium?

Open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your device, select Kinetiq, and cancel. Your Premium features remain until the end of the current billing period.

How do I restore a purchase?

On the Premium screen, tap Restore purchase while signed in to the same Apple ID used originally.
