NestSense helps you find the best room in your home by measuring noise, light, network quality, and drafts — entirely on your device.
NestSense collects no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no trackers, and no third-party SDKs. All measurements are computed and stored only on your device. No audio is ever recorded. No photos are ever taken. Nothing you do in the app is transmitted to us or anyone else.
None. NestSense has no servers, no user accounts, and no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. We have no way to see your measurements, your room names, or anything else about you.
NestSense asks for three permissions, each used solely to take environmental measurements while you run a survey:
| Permission | What it's used for | What never happens |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone | Measures the room's noise level (decibel estimates) during surveys and overnight Night Watch sessions. Audio is analyzed in memory as numeric loudness values. | No audio is recorded, saved, or transmitted. No speech recognition is performed. Sound never leaves your device in any form. |
| Camera | Reads the camera's exposure metadata (ISO, shutter speed, aperture) to estimate the room's light level in lux. | No photos or videos are captured, stored, or transmitted. The image feed itself is never saved or analyzed for content. |
| Motion (barometer) | Reads air-pressure micro-fluctuations to estimate draftiness near windows and doors. | No movement profiles, location, or activity data are derived or stored beyond the draft estimate. |
You can decline any permission; the related measurement is simply skipped and the rest of the app keeps working.
To rate each room's connectivity, NestSense sends a few small test requests (to an Apple connectivity-check page and a Cloudflare speed-test endpoint) and times the responses. These requests measure latency and throughput only. They contain no personal data, no identifiers, and no measurement results. NestSense makes no other network connections.
Room names and measurement summaries (e.g. "noise floor 28 dB", "6 night-noise events") are stored in a local database on your device, protected by iOS's standard app sandboxing. Standard iOS device backups (iCloud or computer) may include this data under your own Apple account, governed by Apple's privacy terms.
Delete any room inside the app to remove all of its measurements, or uninstall the app to remove everything. Because we hold no copies, deletion is immediate and complete.
NestSense does not collect data from anyone, including children, and contains no ads or external links beyond this policy.
If a future version of NestSense changes how data is handled (for example, adding an optional sync feature), this page will be updated before that version ships, and the app's App Store listing will reflect it.
By downloading or using NestSense you agree to these terms and to Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement.
NestSense uses your iPhone's consumer-grade sensors. Decibel values, lux estimates, draft indices, and network figures are indicative estimates intended for comparing rooms with each other — they are not calibrated laboratory measurements. Do not rely on NestSense for safety, health, legal, building-compliance, or professional acoustic/lighting assessments.
Use NestSense only in spaces where you are entitled to take measurements. You are responsible for complying with local laws regarding sound measurement in shared or rented spaces.
NestSense is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any decisions made, or damages arising, from use of the app or reliance on its measurements — including choices about room usage, furniture placement, or property.
The NestSense app, its design, and its content are the property of the developer. These terms grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.
